Webinar Description: Webinar participants will be introduced to tools that will enable them to work more effectively with chemically dependent African Americans with substance use disorders.

 

Participants will be introduced to: Strategies for engaging African Americans in addictions treatment within the first 5 minutes of contact; strategies for overcoming barriers to mistrust; effective cross-cultural counseling; culturally-specific approaches; and how to partner with indigenous healers in the African American community to promote recovery.

 

Presented by: Mark Sanders, LCSW, CADC.  Mr. Sanders, is an International speaker in the Behavioral Health Field whose presentations have reached thousands throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and the Caribbean Islands. A lecturer at The University of Chicago, Mark is the author of five books, including, "Treating the African American Male Substance Abuser" and "Counseling Chemically Dependent African American Women". He has had two stories published in the New York Times Best Selling Book Series Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Webinar Description: Outcomes-informed care had a growing presence in behavioral health settings. Our counterparts in physical medicine have been able to take advantage of the meaningful use incentives to implement electronic health records to harvest the data on their patients to improve outcomes, leverage those outcomes with payors, and engage staff in a culture of change.  How do we in the behavioral health field do the same?  During this webinar we will help providers and administrators understand how to get credit for the good work they are already doing and use accurate, actionable and value-added data to improve outcomes in their organizations. 

 

Presented by: Amy Mosher-Garvey is the Director of Behavioral Health and a Relationship Manager with Forward Health Group, a population health measurement company based in Madison, Wisconsin.  Amy has an extensive history in program management and direct service provision in mental health and substance use disorders. She was formerly in charge of addiction services for Meriter Health Services and was the Associate Clinical Manager for UW Health-Gateway Recovery.  Her work has spanned nearly twenty years and has crossed both public and private sectors.  Amy's work with Forward Health Group allows her to translate her years of direct service and advocacy to better outcomes in the broader health care arena.  In addition to her current work with Forward Health Group Amy also owns a private practice outpatient clinic in Madison, WI.  Amy sits on multiple delegations and committees in the community regarding information exchange and advocacy for behavioral health.  Amy, her husband Joe and her five boys live in Madison where they are deeply embedded in the community.

Presented by: Maria M. Flores, Minority Health Training Officer, Wisconsin Minority Health Program, Wisconsin Department of Health Services.  Ms. Flores has been with the Wisconsin Minority Health Program since 2011, first as the Program and Policy Analyst, then transitioning into the Minority Health Training Officer position in March 2016 after program reorganization. She came to the Wisconsin Division of Public Health (DPH) in 2009 as the Executive Staff Assistant to the Division Administrator and State Health Officer, Dr. Seth Foldy, during which time she gained extensive knowledge in the various functions and programs in DPH. While in the Minority Health Program, she was concurrently assigned to the Wisconsin Public Health Improvement Initiative until late 2015. During her entire career at DPH, she has been assigned to various projects, including: the state health plan, Healthiest Wisconsin 2020; NIATx implementation efforts; staffing the WI Public Health Council and the former WI Minority Health Leadership Council; SharePoint training; and health department projects in the Southeast Regional Office.

Webinar Description: This webinar is for raising awareness and opening the door to exploring more and more the use of mindfulness in recovery, especially with teens who use substances, specifically marijuana. We will explore the impact of marijuana use on the teen age brain and subsequent behavior.  The delivery of mindfulness as a strategy to aid in recovery will be highlighted, with specific techniques that employ quick and immediate feedback regarding the impact of mind upon the body, and body upon the mind. 

 

Participants will understand: the impact of teen marijuana use upon the brain and the role of 'skillful means' in teaching and assisting teens in the process of mindfulness.

Presented by: David W. Nelson, PhD, LPC, SAC.  Dr. Nelson is the Behavioral Health Program Manager for the Ho-Chunk Nation at the House of Wellness in Baraboo, WI. He has a PhD in Natural Health, a Master's Degree in Counseling and is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Substance Abuse Counselor. He has over 30 years of clinical practice assisting people from diverse backgrounds, and unusual circumstances.  Dr. Nelson has specialized training in the martial, meditative, and healing arts. He began his martial arts training in Okinawan Karate in 1969 and received the precepts in Soto Zen in 1994.  Dr. Nelson incorporates warrior wisdom and Zen principles into his counseling practice and writing. He is author of "Black Belt Healing: A Martial Artist’s Guide to Pain Management & Injury Recovery" and "Bushido: Verses of Consideration – a Journey to the Interior of a Warrior’s Spirit"

Webinar Description: This webinar will be an awareness and introductory presentation addressing recovery contingency management, Peer Respite and Recovery Coaches as Case Managers. Participants will be provided a general overview of how these techniques are being utilized in various areas of the United States and how they can be used to build stronger systems of care for our communities. 

 

Presented by: Jesse Heffernan.  Mr. Heffernan is a Professional Recovery Coach, trainer & consultant with 15 years in long term recovery from substance abuse. He is a creative, imaginative, forward-thinking and committed Servant Leader, Program Director and Community Net worker who works to create a meaningful and positive change through innovative solutions to complex community and individual needs. He has worked with several substance use & recovery coalitions as an advocate for implementation of culturally responsive, recovery oriented continuums of care. In his current business, Helios Recovery, we works with local treatment providers in tandem as a Recovery Coach to provide long term Recovery options. Using the CCAR Recovery Coach academy model he has trained over 90 coaches statewide in WI. It is his belief that Recovery is a process of moving from surviving to thriving as a whole person.

Presented by: Mark Lim M.D. is a board certified Family Medicine & Addiction Medicine. A fellow of American Society of Addiction Medicine. He had worked and co-owner of Grace Street Recovery in Maine (Portland, Lewiston & Bath), now as consulting physician.

Currently a Program Medical Director of H.O.P.E (Heroin Opiate Prevention Education) at Northlakes Community Clinic, Ashland WI.
