Mid-America ATTC 2012 Regional Workforce Report for HHS Region 7

The ATTC Network conducted a study of the national addiction treatment workforce to identify strategies to successfully prepare, recruit and retain a sufficient number of professionals able to effectively care for individuals with substance use disorders. The overall study included a nationally- and ATTC regionally-representative survey of clinical directors of substance use disorder treatment facilities and interviews with key thought leaders. In addition, the Mid-America Regional Center presents the Mid-America ATTC 2012 Regional Workforce Report. This report provides results of the regionally representative on-line survey of clinical directors of substance use disorder treatment facilities in the 2007-2012 Mid-America region, including Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. The report covers demographic information about the clinical directors and the direct care staff they supervise, the facility at which they currently work, job satisfaction, recruitment and retention strategies, clinician training and preparation, and staff turnover.

Promoting Cultural Competency in Understanding American Indian Substance Misuse

Mid-America ATTC and the Oklahoma City Area Inter-Tribal Health Board have partnered to develop a new curriculum which will soon be released through this website. Funding for this collaboration was provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT).

Through the Diamond Threshold: Promoting Cultural Competency in Understanding American Indian Substance Misuse is an American Indian cultural awareness training curriculum. The two-day training provides a context in which participants explore how life experiences and Eurocentric perspectives have shaped American Indian alcohol and drug use. The curriculum is largely interactive in nature, utilizing slide presentations, discussion groups, interactive activities, story-telling and videos.
